Is there a free NaturalReader alternative for iPhone?

Yes: we make TTS Reader, a free iPhone app with no daily listening limit and no account, and its voices run on the iPhone, so it reads offline. NaturalReader is the stronger choice if you need hundreds of voices, MP3 export, or apps on Android, the web and a computer.

We make TTS Reader, so this is a comparison by one side. NaturalReader facts come from NaturalReader’s US App Store listing, its website and its help center, checked on 31 October 2026. NaturalReader is made by NaturalSoft Limited; we are not affiliated with it. Prices and limits change, so check the current listing before you buy.

What does NaturalReader’s free plan include?

NaturalReader’s free plan gives unlimited listening with its Free voices and a small daily allowance of its AI voices. According to NaturalReader’s help center (article “Voices, Languages, and TTS Limits”, dated 13 July 2026), a free user gets:

The free plan cannot convert text to MP3, and OCR for scanned or image-based files is a subscription feature. The free plan does include voice cloning and limited AI features, according to the pricing page. NaturalReader’s paid plans cover its web app, mobile app and Chrome extension. Third-party reviews quote other daily limits, often in minutes; the figures above are NaturalReader’s own.

TTS Reader has no free tier because there is no paid tier: every voice and feature is free, with no account and no limit on how much you listen.

How much does NaturalReader cost on iPhone?

In the US App Store on 31 October 2026, NaturalReader listed three subscriptions as in-app purchases:

Plan in the App StoreMonthlyYearly
Premium$9.99$59.99
Plus$20.90$119.00
Pro$25.90$159.00

NaturalReader’s help center lists different plan names and prices for buying on its website: Lite at $13.90 a month or $79 a year, Plus at $20.90 or $119, and Pro at $25.90 or $159. It notes that prices may vary by region when you subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, and that its former Premium plan has been renamed Lite. Other countries' App Stores show other prices.

Can you listen offline in each app?

TTS Reader reads offline with its own voices, while NaturalReader’s documented way to listen offline is a paid MP3 download.

TTS Reader. The voices run on the iPhone. Ten multilingual voices (Supertonic) are part of the app and read 31 languages offline from the first launch. Fifteen English voices, US and UK (Kokoro), work offline after a one-time download of about 190 MB. A connection is needed only to download a book from the free Project Gutenberg catalog, import a web article from a link, or download the optional English voices. More on this in how offline text to speech works.

NaturalReader. Its help center describes offline listening as MP3 conversion: you turn text into audio files and play them without a connection. MP3 conversion is a subscription feature, limited to 1 million characters a month, and free users cannot use it. Free voices cannot be converted to MP3 on any plan. NaturalReader’s homepage also says its iOS and Android apps feature an “offline mode”, but it does not describe what that covers.

Which app reads PDF, EPUB and scans?

Both apps read PDF, EPUB and scanned pages; the difference is what is free and how a PDF is shown.

Neither app reads Kindle books or other DRM-protected ebooks.

How many languages does each app read?

NaturalReader reads more languages: 90+, with 200+ voices, according to its App Store listing and website. TTS Reader reads 31 languages with its built-in voices and detects the language of a text automatically: Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese. If you read in a language outside this list, NaturalReader is the better fit.

Where is NaturalReader better?

NaturalReader is a mature product with many more voices, audio export and apps beyond the iPhone. It is the stronger choice if you:

TTS Reader fits a narrower need: listening to your own documents and books on an iPhone, offline, without paying, signing up or watching a daily allowance. For people with dyslexia or ADHD, word highlighting helps you follow along; it is a reading aid, not a treatment.
