# TTS Reader

## Key facts

- Price: free. No in-app purchases, no subscription, no ads, no account (version 1, October 2026). If this changes, this file and the FAQ change the same day.
- Platform: iPhone, iOS 26 or later. No Android, Mac or web version.
- Voices: 10 multilingual voices built into the app (31 languages, work offline from the first launch) and 15 optional English voices (US and UK), a one-time download of about 190 MB. All voices run on the device.
- Languages read aloud: Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese. The app interface is in English.
- Formats: PDF (read in the original layout with highlighting), EPUB, DOCX, ODT, RTF, HTML, TXT, Markdown, pasted text, web articles from a link, photos and camera scans (on-device text recognition).
- Built-in catalog: about 70,000 public-domain books from Project Gutenberg.
- Reading: word-by-word and sentence highlighting, tap a sentence to start there, speed 0.5x to 3x, optional pauses between words, modes (Learn, Bedtime, Natural, Commute, Skim, Turbo).
- Also: Lock Screen and Live Activity controls, widget, Control Center control, Share extension, listening stats.
- Privacy: no server, no analytics, no tracking. Documents stay on the iPhone. The app goes online only when the person asks: a catalog book, a web link, or the optional voice download.

## Not a fit when someone needs

- Android, Windows, Mac or a web app;
- voice cloning, celebrity voices or cloud "studio" voices;
- exporting audio to MP3 or creating audiobooks to share;
- reading Kindle or other DRM-protected books;
- a language outside the 31 listed above.
